Your personal tailor

One master tailor drafts your pattern, cuts your cloth and stands behind the finished garment. At this studio, that has always been the point.

Domenico's story

A craft passed down at his father's side

Domenico Carbone brings unparalleled expertise to the art of tailoring for both high-and-mighty menswear and full-figured womenswear. He deeply understands that true elegance relies on precision engineering, masterfully balancing proportions to complement commanding heights and celebrate natural curves. Instead of simply scaling up standard patterns, he drafts custom blueprints that ensure flawless drape, effortless mobility, and structure.

His approach shifts the focus entirely from the size on a label to the sophistication of the silhouette. Every meticulous stitch reflects his commitment to providing an impeccable, custom-fit experience that instils absolute confidence in every client.

Domenico learned tailoring the way it has been passed down in Italy for generations – at his father's side. His father trained under master artisans in Italy before bringing the craft to Melbourne, and Domenico's skills were developed from a young age at his father's atelier, under the demanding eye of his father and the Italian artisans around him.

A second-generation master tailor, he still drafts every pattern and cuts every garment himself. He is one of a small number of tailors left in Australia working fully bespoke — pattern, cut, construction and finish, all under one roof.

The craft

Marked, cut, crafted and fitted by his own hands

Every pattern drafted, every seam checked against you — the work a factory can never do.

“Every garment is made here, under my own roof. Nothing is sent offshore, and nothing is rushed by a factory I will never meet. I cut it, I fit it, and my name goes on the result.”

— Domenico Carbone

Kellie

She makes the decisions easier

Bespoke is a series of decisions, and Kellie makes them easier: cloth and lining choices, styling details, fitting schedules, wedding-party logistics. When a party of six needs to be measured, fitted and finished before a spring wedding, she is the reason it runs to time.

The studio

The sartoria in Eaglemont

The sartoria (the workplace of an artist) is in Eaglemont in Melbourne's north-east, and it works by private appointment, with the full address provided when you book. Please phone Kellie for details.

Domenico opens to suit your diary – please phone or email Kellie to arrange. If it is easier for you, residential and office visits are available, indicative pricing based on kilometres & time.

The process in full

From first meeting to finished garment

  • Consultation: a free 20-minute first meeting, then a detailed appointment of 60 to 90 minutes (or as long as you need) for occasion, style, cloth and measurements. Price agreed before anything is cut.
  • Pattern and cutting: Domenico drafts your individual pattern and cuts the cloth by hand.
  • Fittings (two): the garment is refined against you, at the studio.
  • Finishing: buttonholes, pressing and the last details, done in-house. Everything is 100% Australian made, start to finish. Most garments are ready in around five weeks.
  • Afterwards: your pattern is kept on file for future orders, each client in their own filing system. A bespoke suit is also crafted to be adjusted as life changes shape — depending on your weight changes, many alterations are possible.
